Google Apps for Education
Special Needs and Science Classes are using iPads because of the quality apps/content
Teachers can individualize what is on devices, by student or by class
Everyone else is using Chromebooks through Active Directory ($240 ea.)
Chromebooks come pre-congifured
Students log in through Google Apps for Education
Teachers cannot individualize devices - a change changes all Chromebooks on the same domain/organizational unit
Must purchase devices with most current software
Chrome
management makes it so you don't have to touch each device when a change needs to be made
Users can change their own username and passwords via the web
Administrative buy-in was critical
Downsides -
Pictures from presentations blocked
Lightspeed does not work well with Google
Huge training issue for elementary students to remember their username and password
Upsides -
Chromebooks already tied in to Google Apps for Education
Cost
Supports multi-user sign-in
District and school sites managed with Drupal
Teachers use Google Sites, can be collaborative
Questions - what about when teachers/students leave the district? How do they keep their work? How do shared documents not get lost?
Have to make a copy of a doc if you want to share ownership outside of a domain
Google Takeout

They must be aligned to Common Core
And no one knows what else . . .

No idea whether or not items will be imported individually or in tests
