USOE is putting the finishing touches on a number of new questions that will fill holes in Math, Science, and English / Language Arts, as well as create an item pool for Social Studies
The Utah State Legislature is still work on next year's education budget.
Under President's proposed 2011 budget federal funding of K-12 science, technology, engineering and math education funding would see an almost 40% increase over 2010 funding to $1 billion across all federal agencies, and a total of $3.7 billion in STEM education funding overall.
It would also make $500 million available through the Department of Education's "Investing in Innovation" Fund, which would allow schools to make technology-related investments to "infuse educational technology across a broad range of programs in order to improve teaching and learning.
Several other programs funded under the 2011 budget proposal would also go toward funding education technology and online course development. These funds appear to take the place of the Enhancing Education Through Technology fund, which receives no money in next year's proposed budget.
Project Overview: Involve STSs, teachers, students, and school administration in a year long video project designed to promote the school wide use of technology.
Objective: Final project will be a video spotlight of individual classrooms, school, CyberCorps, community activities, and special events to be presented as part of the end of school awards assembly.

Sessions are conducted by STS/LMITS. Each STS/LMITS will run own training program. Training sessions begin December 2009.

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) is an exciting and fun global robotics and innovation program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, teamwork and technology in kids ages nine to 14.
Students have the opportunity to solve real-world challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.
FLL recommends that teams budget $750 for their first year and $350-$400 in following years. Money often comes from fund-raising, grants, school principals, PTAs, or team member constributions. Travel, t-shirts, and optional items are in addition to these estimates.
First Utah regional event - January 29, 2011 at the Union on U of U campus. Kathy would like C-Forum's help getting students / teams involved and she needs volunteers for this event. She also suggests that we can become a coach or mentor.
Online registration will be available in May. In early Sept. the challenge will be revealed. Oct. - Nov. the teams research and build.
The Utah FIRST will offer grants.
