Notes:
08:30 a.m. Breakfast
09:00 a.m. Keynote - Dean Wilson, Mastery Connect

They are using a Clever sync on a 24-hour cycle. “Data rich and action poor” which leads us to review how often our data is collected, and when action is taken.
Identify all of the crucial components to riding a bike. Once all components to riding a bike have been identified rank order the 3 most important components. Create a plan you would use to teach these 3 components.
  • safety
  • balance
  • positioning
  • keep going
  • pedaling
  • eyes on the road

Standard for this activity is ‘Bicycle Riding’ but we need to acquire a skills to reach the standard. You need specific feedback to keep progressing. This applies to students and teachers.
When viewing a mastery tracker… How are the students doing? How is the teacher doing? There are a few students that are struggling on most everything. If this was a pizza shop you would close. MasteryConnect has both a parent and student portal. This allows for students to take responsibility for their own learning.

10:00 a.m. Break
10:15 a.m. Greg Hansen and the USAD Pentathlon

This competition allows students to showcase their academic skills. India is the topic for this year along with ecology. There are only two junior high schools in Utah participating right now. $250.00 to register the school. A second team is another $100.00. RJHS has a Grade 8 and Grade 7. There is also a testing fee. They have fundraisers to help get the students to nationals. We need to have an article in the UCET newsletter. It would be great to have his students come out to UCET as well. His email address is ghansen@dcsd.org if you have any questions. - http://www.usad.org/Related-Programs/Pentathlon.aspx - http://www.usad.org/

10:45 a.m. Struggles of A Small IT Department

We have 5400 students 600 staff 18 buildings from Roosevelt to Tabiona but very spread out. There are about 7 people handling the work. They have all three operating systems (windows, OS X, and chrome books).

11:30 a.m. Edgenuity
This is a content delivery service. The students need 80% mastery for the lesson, quiz and final. Math I, II, and III classes are run through this program. The My Pathway selection allows for remediation. Altamonte does a 5 by 5 block with math every day. Lab monitor is licensed teacher for help with the program but does not need to be a level 4 teacher. They expect a good correlation with SAGE interim based on the customization they did in matching the content to a SAGE blueprint. Each student participates in a math course and math lab.
